Position:  Wastewater Technician I
Status:   Full-Time 


The City of Lansing is currently seeking an energetic and detail-oriented person to join our team.  The Wastewater Technician I is responsible for operation and maintenance of the wastewater facility, including preventative, routine, and emergency repairs.  Duties include routine cleaning and organization of maintenance tools, materials, equipment, and facilities.  Day to day tasks involve working with hand and power tools, and operation of vehicles and equipment. 
Salary Range: $16.62 - $17.45 per hour D.O.Q.
Required Certification, Licenses, Registrations, and Training:
o High School Diploma or G.E.D.
o Posses a valid commercial driver’s license Class B, with air brake and tanker endorsements, within 6 months of hire.
o Kansas Class II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator within 18 months of hire date.

Required Education and Experience:

o High school education or G.E.D. and three to six month’s related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   
o Experience in mechanic related work.

Preferred Education and Experience:
o High school education or G.E.D. and six to twelve months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
o Training and experience related to mechanical, plumbing, automotive, fabrication, or equipment operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

o Performs preventative and routine repairs and maintenance to equipment and vehicles, pumps, belts, motors. 
o Ensures operation in accordance with established procedures of all processes dealing with the treatment of wastewater.
o Operates, understands and interpret SCADA system controls and logic, perform process adjustments to maintain compliance and operational efficiency of treatment facility.
o Possess computer skills to be able to enter and edit information for operating systems.
o Assists with daily record keeping, including data recorded for the city’s preventative maintenance program.
o Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools including welders, machine shop tools, digital amp and voltage multi-meters.
o Accomplishes routine cleaning of all facilities.
o General grounds maintenance, including mowing and weed eating, general cleanup, and paintings.
o Operates and maintains all Wastewater Department Vehicles.
o Complies with safety policies of the city, including appropriate safety equipment, where applicable.
o Performs testing and adjustment of process controls to achieve appropriate discharge limits to meet permit limits.
o Responds tactfully and courteously to all inquiries from citizens, staff, the City Administrator and advises the supervisors.
o Performs record keeping, and compiles data for daily, weekly, monthly reports to various agencies.
o Works rotating on-call shifts as required and responds promptly to after-hours emergencies at both the Wastewater Treatment Facility and the collection system, as directed by their supervisor.
o Reports hazards that cannot be corrected under ordinary maintenance.
o Utilizes necessary equipment including hand and power tools such as shovels, picks, hammers, saws, and jackhammers, etc. as directed.
