Job Recruitment Announcement - CITY SUPERINTENDENT

The City of Columbus Kansas (pop. 3,200) has an opening for a City Superintendent. Responsible for operations of the public works department including director oversight of public works personnel, water & sewer utilities, garbage collection, street rehabilitation and maintenance, parks & pool, cemetery, and fleet & equipment maintenance. Administrative duties include budget implementation & oversight, record keeping, project management (including preparing all city project bid specifications), overseeing equipment use & maintenance, reporting, mapping, communicating with contracted firms and agencies. Reports to the City Administrator.

Five years of previous public works experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience with municipal utility systems, building construction and ArcGIS Platform a plus. This position requires a State of Kansas Class II Water certification and a Class I Sewer certification within 18 months of employment or conversion of certifications from another state within 3 months of employment. Position requires residency in Cherokee County within 6 months and Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 12 months of hire.

This is a salaried exempt position with an annual salary up to $72,050 DOQ/E. Benefit package includes health, dental and life insurance, KPERS, sick and vacation leave. Submit cover letter and resume to Office of the City Clerk via email to EOE. Position open until filled.
