Water & Wastewater Operator Job Opening

The City of Maize Public Works Department is accepting applications for a full-time Water and Wastewater Operator. This is a Head Operator position which is responsible for overseeing, operating, and maintaining the city’s water and sewer infrastructure systems including drinking water disinfection and distribution system, lift stations, sewer collection system, and wastewater treatment plant. 

Salary Range: $23.67 - $32.67 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities: [/b]
•   Direct and coordinate the technical and administrative activities of the Water and Wastewater Utilities Systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operations.
•   Plan and coordinate projects, maintenance programs, and other activities.
•   Ensures all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements are accurately and timely met.
•   Recommends and/or oversees procurement of utility equipment and supplies.
•   Works effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public; deals tactfully and courteously with the public and maintains composure in difficult and stressful situations.
•   Promotes the good will of the city.
•   Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations.
•   Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on any related equipment or machinery.
•   Oversee and direct city staff in Water and Wastewater activities.
•   Oversee and/or perform daily operations of the Water and Wastewater systems.
•   Ability to train employees in water and wastewater operations.

Qualification Requirements:
•   A valid Kansas Driver’s license (CDL preferred)
•   Class III Water and Wastewater Certification
•   Minimum five years’ experience in municipal water and wastewater.
•   Ability to evaluate and diagnose problems and to make judgments and effective decisions.
•   Ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing.

Physical Demands:
•   Ability to lift and carry up to 90 pounds.
•   Ability to meet job demands under some stressful and prolonged situations.
•   Ability to work long hours under adverse weather conditions and during emergencies.
