Chief Collection System Operator

This position performs a variety of supervisory, technical, and maintenance work in the planning, construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city wastewater collection systems.

Knowledge of equipment, materials and procedures used in wastewater treatment and wastewater collection systems, thorough knowledge of pipe installation, connection and repair in addition to thorough knowledge of road construction repair and maintenance necessary.  Experience with GPS and its interaction with GIS is an ever increasing aspect of this position.  The ability to guide, direct and motivate employees required.  Skill in operating and maintaining various types of equipment such as pump stations and controls, backhoe, dump trucks, high pressure jet trucks and vacuum trucks essential. 

This job requires heavy lifting, bending, stooping and performing duties in all types of weather.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or acceptable equivalent and a valid Kansas driverís license (with the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 60 days of employment).  Five years of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of wastewater collection systems including the operation of related maintenance equipment is desired.  Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered by the employer.  Certification by the State of Kansas (KDHE) as a Class II Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator and certification by ABC as a Class IV Collection System Operator or ability to obtain each license within three years of employment preferred.

The successful applicant must pass post-offer, pre-employment drug/alcohol screens along with physical capacity profile and background checks.  Residency requirements do apply.
